Nine Reasons Organizations Resist Change

I’ve been fascinated over the years to observe the extremes of energy and ingenuity that can go into resisting digital transformation: shady politics designed to tank a project, presentations that imply new directions are not consistent with the current brand, competing projects that “pop up” to create internal conflict, sudden budget cuts that require innovative efforts to be defunded. Unfortunately, when change comes to an organization, many people’s first inclination is to try to stop it. But this doesn’t have to be the case, and if you have the right techniques, you can work to get people on the side of change. But first, it’s imperative to understand why people resist change. Once you understand the motivations, you’ll be much better equipped to help people let go of their resistance.
